Information and commentary for the small business banking industry

Why your small business customers should be blogging

25 Jul

Next time you’re chatting with your small business customers about their website, suggest blogging as a way to drive more traffic to it and increase their brand awareness. Blogging is a cheap and easy way to keep their brand name front-of-mind, and increase their prospects.

A blog is something that lets their personality shine through. People often prefer to buy from someone they feel they have a personal connection with. And it’s easily shared across their social media platforms, as well as by others.

What they’re looking to do is create content that a) engages their readers; b) gets them familiar with their brand; c) encourages their audience to tell others about them; d) shows that they’re a leader in their area and knowledgeable about their product or service and e) most importantly, encourages people to buy from them.

Blogs should be informative, easy to read, and entertaining. It’s a reflection of their business. Obviously, they’ll want to focus on their offering, but blogs mean they don’t have to restrict themselves to that. They can write about events they’ve attended (especially if they’ve featured prominently), trade shows they’ll be at, and community involvement. Remember that people enjoy buying from businesses where they feel they have more of a personal connection. Help your small business customers to avoid formality and engage with their audience on a personal level.
